Proposed industrial investment in 89 projects rose to Rs15,717 cr in Apr from Rs13,223 cr in 69 proposals in Apr 2022

New Delhi: Industrialists proposed investment of Rs15,717 crore in 89 projects in April, as compared to 69 proposals with proposed investment of Rs13,223 crore in April 2022. This was an almost 19 per cent rise in proposed investment.

In terms of actual investment, 60 industrial entrepreneur memorandums (IEMs) with investment of Rs8,456 crore reported implementation of IEMs in April, in comparison with 75 IEMs with investment of Rs17,961 crore in the corresponding month last year, official sources told Bizz Buzz.

Proposed investments are Part-A IEM filings, while actual investments are indicated by Part-B IEM filings.

Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh were the leading States in terms of proposed investment of Rs3,663 crore, Rs3,525 crore, and Rs799 crore, respectively during April 2023.

Investment intentions reflect preference for electric equipment, fermentation of industries, and food processing industries with proposed investment of Rs2,550 crore, Rs2,712 crore, and Rs1,243 crore, respectively.

Gujarat and Maharashtra were also leading states attracting Part-A IEM filings in April 2022; The third state was Odisha. Electrical equipment and fermentation of industries were the sectors getting top investment in April 2022; The third sector was chemical other than fertilizers.

In the January-April 2023 period, a total of 307 IEMs with investment of Rs87,132 have reported implementation. In 2022, 916 projects reported actual investment of Rs250,064 crore.

Industrial undertakings exempted from the requirements of licensing are required to officially file information—that is, Party-A IEM—relating to the setting up of units. Confirmation for receipt of such information is known as ‘IEM acknowledgement.’ The acknowledgement of the IEM is issued online on prima facie evidence of not attracting the provisions of licensing.

All industrial undertakings, which file IEM are required to report commencement of commercial production. This is also filed online by providing information as per the prescribed form Part-B of the IEM after commencement of commercial production by the establishment.
